Kronsberg is located in Hannover, Germany.  The development has followed the key principles in the United Nations Agenda 21.  Environmentally sustainable features include:
The presence of a train station less than 600 m away for all residents;
Reduced household energy use by 60 - 80%;
Preserved surrounding woodlands and countryside; and
A 50% reduction in household waste.

Ellenbrook is a northeastern suburb in Perth, Western Australia, and so far five of seven different styled villages have been built.  House designs allow for solar orientation and design, decreased environmental impact on wetlands, flora and fauna, reduced car dependency and lower home operating costs.  It is envisaged that by 2012, Ellenbrook villages will house approximately 30 000 people.

The Subi Centro project is situated in Subiaco which is a few kilometers west of Perth, Western Australia.  The Subi Centro redevelopment includes townhouses, apartments, parkland, commercial office, retail shopping, home office, service industry and public transport.  This redevelopment won the Urban Renewal category in the 2004 UDIA National Awards for Excellence.

Rockcote Design Centre

The Rockcote Design Centre is Australia’s first sustainable commercial building built on a former wasteland at Nerang (near the Gold Coast).  The Rockcote Design Centre won the President’s Award in the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s National Awards for Excellence in 2006 and was announced as the runner-up in the international Prix D’Excellence Awards – Environmental Category at the FIABCI World Congress in Amsterdam on May 29 2008.  The building is totally self-sufficient for water, waste treatment and energy, selling excess power to the electricity grid.  Other environmentally friendly practices include natural systems for heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation and an organic garden.

Crystal Waters Permaculture Village

Crystal Waters is a rural subdivision north of Brisbane, established in 1987 and designed by Max Lindegger, Robert Tap, Barry Goodman and Geoff Young.  It consists of 83 residential and 2 commercial properties.  80% of the 640 acre property is owned in common and can be used for sustainable agriculture, forestry, recreation and habitat projects. It received the 1996 World Habitat Award (assessed by Dr Wally N’Dow) for its "pioneering work in demonstrating new ways of low impact, sustainable living".

Casuarina Beach

Casuarina Beach is situated along the beachfront of the New Tweed Coast in northern New South Wales.  Since the development began in 2001, it has received 13 awards for design, environmental sustainability and protection.  The Casuarina Beach development will include more than 600 houses, 1500 apartments and villas, various retail outlets and a community centre.

Docklands is Australia's largest construction project situated next to Melbourne's CBD in Victoria.  The development has involved renewing 200 hectares of unused government land into a place for people to live, work and visit for entertainment.  Docklands is scheduled for completion by 2020.

Waterways

Waterways is located in Braeside, Victoria in Melbourne's south-east, less than 3 km from Mordialloc beach.  20% of the development is parkland and 40% is a freshwater lake.   Cats are not allowed within this development due to the presence of unique birdlife, fish and frogs. 

Some of the awards won by this development include:

  • National Housing Institute (HIA) Award
  • National Urban Development Institute Award (UDIA) for Environmental Excellence
  • Australian Property Institute's State Environmental Development Award (SEAV) for 'outstanding treatment of environmental issues in the context of a development project.'

The Waterford Valley Land Rehabilitation Project is located in Knox City, Victoria at the foothills of the Dandenong ranges in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.  The Project has rehabilitated 140 acres of land into wetlands, a golf course, retirement village, hostel accommodation and a conference centre as well as reintroducing indigenous flora and fauna.  The Waterford Valley Land Rehabilitation Project won the Local Government Property Award from the Australian Property Institute.
